In the original world's ruined 2020, Claudia buries Regina and meets her counterpart from the alternate world. The other Claudia describes Eva's struggle against Adam and instructs her to keep Jonas, Noah and Elisabeth following their established paths. Elsewhere, Elisabeth abandons Peter's search for their missing family and returns to their caravan. An intruder attacks her. Peter arrives and fights him but is killed, leaving Elisabeth to kill the attacker with a fire extinguisher. She later seeks out young Noah.
In the original world's 1987, Katharina promises to free Ulrich from the psychiatric hospital. She follows Helene and tries to steal her key card, but the struggle ends with her mother beating her to death. Helene drags the body into the lake and returns home to abuse the teenage Katharina. Ulrich waits for a rescue that will never arrive. In the same period, Tannhaus tells young Charlotte that two women brought her to him on the night his own son's family died.
In the alternate world's 2019, Jonas and Martha approach the power plant. When she scratches her face on the fence, he recognises the wound worn by the Martha who rescued him and realises they are repeating events. He returns with her to demand answers from Eva. Her adult self and another teenage Martha join them. The scarred teenager apologises before shooting Jonas. Martha holds him as he dies.
