Charlotte's investigation in 2019 brings suspicion into her own household. Footage from a wildlife camera places Peter's car near the woods around the time Mikkel disappeared, contradicting his account of working late. Peter also clears red soil from his car. Charlotte questions Benni about Peter's previous visits, but Benni says he has stayed away for a year. Charlotte still has no explanation for where her husband actually went that night.
The Doppler family's strained relationships continue while Franziska argues with Elisabeth and keeps money near the railway tracks. Magnus follows Franziska and confronts her about it; she tells him she wants to leave Winden. Charlotte examines the dead birds and visits the cabin associated with Helge, finding the bunker nearby. Her work distracts her from collecting Elisabeth from school, and the girl begins walking home alone in the rain.
Jonas follows his father's map into the caves, reaches a dead end, and returns to find a red cord tied to his bicycle. Ulrich climbs the power plant fence and has to be collected by Charlotte. Fear spreads through the Doppler household when Elisabeth cannot be found, but she eventually returns unharmed. She says a man named Noah gave her a pocket watch engraved for Charlotte. The following day, Yasin walks through the woods and encounters a man who tells him Noah sent him.
