Seung-jun dies after rescuing Dan, hearing her admit that she likes him before he slips away. Se-ri survives her own medical crisis, but Jeong-hyeok and the others must return north in an exchange. Her mother takes her to the border so she can say goodbye. Jeong-hyeok apologises for his hurtful claims during questioning, and they confess their love before he is led away with his men.
The military director attempts to have the returning group executed, but Jeong-hyeok’s father intervenes and brings his son home alive. Man-bok reunites with his family, while Dan seeks evidence against those involved in Seung-jun’s capture. In Seoul, that evidence helps expose Se-hyeong and Sang-a, who are arrested. Se-ri returns to a home stocked with food by Jeong-hyeok and begins receiving messages he arranged in advance, offering company across the months of separation.
Jeong-hyeok leaves his village post to return to music, and Dan chooses her own musical career after ending their engagement. Se-ri supports a programme bringing young musicians to Switzerland, hoping its performances will give Jeong-hyeok a way to find her. After unsuccessful visits, another paragliding landing brings them together there. The later reunion shows them sharing two weeks in Switzerland each year, finding time together while their everyday lives remain on opposite sides of the border.
