Season synopsis

Piper and Leo return from a month with the Elders, who still forbid their relationship, while Prue and Phoebe protect innocents from demons trading murderers’ victims for souls. Phoebe falls for assistant district attorney Cole Turner, unaware that the Triad sent him to kill the sisters as the half-demon Belthazor. Once she learns the truth, she chooses to help him resist his demonic side rather than vanquish him. Piper and Leo marry despite the Elders’ opposition. Piper gains the ability to explode objects by accelerating their molecules, while Cole’s divided loyalties keep putting him between Phoebe and the demons who want him back.
The sisters face threats tied to family history and changing relationships, including Prue’s grief over their mother and Phoebe’s conflict with her sisters about trusting Cole. In the finale, Shax, the Source’s assassin, attacks Prue and Piper as they protect a doctor. Their pursuit is filmed, exposing magic to the public. Phoebe goes to the Underworld with Leo to find Cole and accepts the Source’s offer to reverse time. The reset erases the exposure, but Shax attacks again. The episode leaves Prue and Piper gravely injured without confirming either fate; season four establishes that Leo saves Piper but cannot heal Prue.
