Prue, Piper and Phoebe Halliwell reunite at their childhood home in San Francisco, where Phoebe finds the Book of Shadows. Reading its first spell awakens the sisters’ witch powers and the Power of Three. They begin protecting innocents while keeping magic secret: Prue works at an auction house, Piper runs a restaurant kitchen and Phoebe searches for direction. Their father Victor returns, hoping to take the Book because he fears what their powers may bring. When the sisters defeat the shapeshifters trying to steal it, Victor accepts their decision and leaves them a family Christmas tape.
The sisters’ private lives become harder to separate from witchcraft. Prue’s boss Rex and colleague Hannah are warlocks who use her powers against her, but Leo, a handyman secretly assigned as their Whitelighter, restores their abilities so they can defeat the pair. Leo’s forbidden love for Piper develops as Phoebe learns his identity. Andy Trudeau, Prue’s former boyfriend and a police inspector, investigates the sisters’ strange cases and discovers their secret after seeing Prue use magic. In the finale, Inspector Rodriguez attacks with help from Tempus, a demon who repeatedly rewinds time. Andy enters the manor to protect Prue, and Rodriguez kills him. A vision of Andy helps Prue accept his death. She breaks the time loop, the sisters defeat Rodriguez, and they attend Andy’s funeral.
