Jesse leaves hospital just as Hank arrives critically wounded, then goes to the laboratory to begin his new job. Walt dismisses Gale and introduces Jesse as his replacement, but news of Hank's shooting draws him straight back to the hospital. The White and Schrader families wait while doctors fight to save Hank. Marie turns her anger on his colleagues after learning that his suspension meant he had surrendered his gun before the attack. Walt is trying to support his family without revealing how closely his own business is connected to the men who attacked his brother-in-law.
The surviving assassin, Leonel Salamanca, is being treated in the same hospital. When he sees Walt, he recognises him and tries to crawl out of bed towards him, making Walt suspect that he was the original target. Gus then arrives with food for the police, greeting Walt's family and showing that he already knows about Hank. Walt has been making excuses for the laboratory's delay, unaware of how much information his employer possesses. Leonel dies shortly afterwards, with Mike shown leaving after disposing of a syringe. In Mexico, Juan Bolsa suspects Gus of manipulating events and threatens retaliation, but armed police raid his home and kill him. Walt remains at the hospital while Gus's enemies are removed elsewhere.
