Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
After a period apart overseas, Booth and Brennan return to help save Cam’s forensic unit. They resume their cases, but Booth has come back from Afghanistan with war correspondent Hannah Burley, whom he loves and soon invites to live with him. Brennan tries to accept the relationship while reassessing her own feelings. After she tells Booth she made a mistake and loves him, he says he loves Hannah; Hannah and Brennan nevertheless become friends.
Booth’s relationship with Hannah ends after he proposes to her. She says she loves him but does not want marriage and asks to return to how things were; Booth ends the relationship. The season’s other long arc begins when former Army sniper Jacob Broadsky kills the Gravedigger during her appeal and continues targeting people he considers criminals. Booth’s pursuit draws on his military past, while Broadsky’s attack reaches into the Jeffersonian and kills intern Vincent Nigel-Murray as the team tries to trace a phone call.
The lab mourns Vincent, and Brennan goes to Booth for comfort that night. Booth then tracks Broadsky to a port and captures him after shooting him in the leg. In the following bowling-alley case, Angela gives birth to her and Hodgins’s son, Michael. Afterward, Brennan tells Booth that she is pregnant with his child, revealing that their night together has changed their relationship.
