Season 3

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

The Heelers’ everyday games keep getting complicated by sibling disagreements, competition and the people around them. In “Obstacle Course,” Bluey first rigs the backyard race so she can beat Bandit, then practises to win fairly; when he pulls her back at the finish, she recognises that a victory he has not earned means little. In “Cricket,” the neighbourhood dads try several ways to get Rusty out, but the skilled batter can handle the fast ball he once feared. Rusty chooses instead to give his younger sister Dusty an easy catch.

Friends and family take turns changing the girls’ play. Bluey and Bingo make Kimjim a sprawling cubby, adding an alpaca farm and horse stable; its maze grows so large that Bandit cannot find the way out when he needs the toilet. When the sisters lose Kimjim, he collapses the cubby and the girls find their toy. In “Ghostbasket,” Janet and Rita resist Chilli’s attempt to buy their pretend house: they stage interruptions and invent a haunted basket, and Bandit eventually plays a haunted wheelbarrow to help them scare Mum away.

The longer special “The Sign” brings a real change to the Heeler home: it is listed for sale, and Bluey struggles with leaving. As the family prepare for Frisky and Rad’s wedding, Frisky runs off after learning Rad intends to move west; they reconcile, marry and decide to stay. Bluey later comforts Bingo about moving, but the sale falls through. In “Surprise,” Bandit attempts Bingo’s pretend-family game and Bluey’s ambush game at once; when he reassures one of Bingo’s pretend babies, Bluey abandons her attack to help him.
