Bluey

Season 1

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Bluey and Bingo turn their days into games, though play can change course when a rule stops feeling fair. In “Grannies,” their Janet-and-Rita act stalls over whether grannies can floss; Bluey’s victory makes Bingo quit, so Bluey finds a way to teach Nana the dance and bring Bingo back. In “The Creek,” Dad takes Bluey, Bingo and Mackenzie away from the crowded playground. The bugs and untamed bush unsettle Bluey at first, but she grows more confident as the children make their way to the creek and its swimming hole.

Bluey’s friendships also reach beyond home. On a camping trip, she meets Jean-Luc, a French-speaking boy from Canada. They cannot understand each other’s words, but play together, plant seeds and hunt Bandit as a wild pig. One morning, Jean-Luc and his family have packed up and gone home, leaving Bluey heartbroken. Chilli tells her that people can come into and out of their lives and encourages her to remember the good days. Years later, Bluey sits beneath the tree grown from those seeds and sees Jean-Luc again.

Another difficult day begins when Bluey copies Bandit and they find an injured budgie by the path. They put the bird in a shoebox and take it to the vet, but it dies despite their efforts. Bluey tries to process the loss by asking Bingo to replay the morning as a budgie, complete with a pretend emergency trip to Mum’s vet. When Bingo’s bird character recovers, Bluey is upset that this game has not followed the real event; Bandit reminds her that the bird’s death was beyond their control.
