On-jo, Su-hyeok and Nam-ra return toward the construction site to look for Cheong-san after the bombing, but find no sign that lets them bring him back. The survivors continue through the woods and reach a town that initially appears deserted. Zombies converge on them, forcing another fight before they can escape. Wu-jin is bitten while protecting Ha-ri, and Nam-ra kills him after he turns, leaving his sister to watch the loss at close range.
Nam-ra's hunger grows harder to control as the group continues. She separates from the others, and Su-hyeok and On-jo go back to find her. When she attacks On-jo, she pulls away before biting her and disappears rather than keep exposing her friends to the same danger. The remaining six students reach soldiers and are taken into quarantine. Their questioning brings little cooperation: Su-hyeok asks why the rescuers abandoned them, and On-jo refuses to place her trust in adults again.
Months later, martial law ends while the survivors remain in quarantine. On-jo visits the memorial outside the camp and notices a fire on the school roof. She tells Su-hyeok, and all six friends return to the ruined building together. Nam-ra is waiting beside the fire and is glad to see them. She explains that others like her remain nearby and that she has work to do among them. Promising that distance will not end their friendship, she jumps from the roof to join them.
