So-ju reunites with On-jo and leads the surviving students away from the gym. He points them toward the tennis courts, the construction site and the mountain beyond, but zombies close around the group before they can get clear. After being bitten, he draws the attackers toward himself with a flare and his whistle. On-jo has to leave him behind as Cheong-san and the others get through, carrying the cost of her father's rescue with them.
The students take shelter at the construction site, where another blocked route leaves them exposed. Gwi-nam attacks Min-jae while trying to track Cheong-san and continues after getting the information he wants. Military command prepares sound-emitting drones to gather the infected around selected bombing targets. Nam-ra hears an evacuation announcement naming their school among the places to be destroyed. The students have little time to find cover, and Gwi-nam arrives before they can resolve their next move.
Gwi-nam bites Cheong-san, who says goodbye to On-jo and exchanges name tags with her. Cheong-san calls the zombies toward himself, opening a route for his friends to escape toward the mountain. He confronts Gwi-nam again as the missiles reach Hyosan, and the bully carries out his threat to injure Cheong-san's eye. Their fight is engulfed by the bombing while the remaining students get away. Commander Jin Seon-moo takes responsibility for ordering the attack and later shoots himself.
