Spoilers for this episode.
Jack has the recording and arranges a protected return to CTU, while Audrey learns that Heller survived his plunge into the water. Graham's people manufacture a distress signal suggesting the diplomatic aircraft threatens a ground target. Logan uses the alert to authorize an F-18 to destroy the plane despite Novick's objections. Karen warns Jack, and CTU searches for a stretch of freeway where Evans can land before the fighter reaches them.
Jack forces Evans into a steep descent while the passengers brace for impact. Once the aircraft is visibly landing, the military recommends cancelling the strike. Logan reluctantly agrees, and the plane stops on the freeway just before an overpass. Jack leaves separately from the passengers and reaches Curtis, who talks their car through a Marine roadblock. Back at CTU, Jack hands the recorder to Chloe and briefly reunites with Audrey in medical.
Karen tells Miles about the evidence against Logan, trusting him to keep it quiet. Bierko is also moved toward a transfer van, where he exchanges a look with the driver. Logan prepares to kill himself after learning Jack escaped with the recording, but an unexpected call interrupts him. Miles offers to intervene against evidence he claims threatens national security. Logan welcomes the offer, and Miles approaches Chloe's workstation with a small device beside the recorder.
