Jack enters the compound as Omar begins broadcasting Heller's trial. President Keeler has authorised a missile strike, leaving only minutes for a rescue. Jack finds Audrey and gives her a knife before reaching Heller. He interrupts the execution and frees the Secretary, prompting the President to cancel the strike. Marines arrive as Jack and Heller run out of ammunition. Omar emerges holding Audrey at gunpoint and threatens to kill her in front of them. Audrey uses the knife to break his hold, and the Marines shoot him after Jack intervenes. Back at CTU, Audrey says she recognised a man among the captors and remembers seeing him at a dinner.
Paul arrives hoping to reconcile with Audrey, while Heller notices her relationship with Jack. Navi sends Behrooz with Tariq to dispose of Debbie's body. Dina realises the trip is also meant to end with her son's death. Behrooz spots Tariq's gun, attacks him with a shovel and learns that his father ordered the killing. He kills Tariq and escapes. CTU identifies the stolen briefcase as belonging to a defense contractor. Its missing device can control nuclear facilities, and Jack realises the traffic generated by Heller's trial could have concealed an attack on their safeguards. Marianne secretly warns her contact that CTU has discovered the override.
