Jack leads a raid on Marwan's warehouse, but Marwan notices the damaged telephone wiring and prepares his escape. The agents enter as computer records are erased. Explosions destroy the remaining equipment, and Marwan gets away. Documents that survive identify Mitch Anderson, a former military pilot now working as a mercenary. Jack heads to Anderson's apartment, hoping to find the evidence that the warehouse raid failed to secure before another attack begins.
Nicole has already killed the FBI agent sent to the apartment and taken her place. She presents herself to Jack and his partner as Agent Drake, claiming to be searching for backup files. Jack finds a recent military medal that suggests Anderson may be using a military disguise. When Jack's partner discovers a hidden hard drive, Nicole kills him and tries to escape with it. Jack shoots her and recovers the drive.
With Edgar's help, Jack opens files containing a flight simulator and plans for a stealth fighter. CTU connects the evidence to an aircraft that has taken off without reporting back. Air Force One is approaching Los Angeles, making President Keeler the likely target. Michelle warns the President while Jack contacts Anderson over the radio and appeals to his service record and family. Anderson cuts off communication and fires. Air Force One is hit, and pieces of the damaged plane fall over the desert.
