Paul arrives at CTU badly wounded, and Audrey waits as surgeons try to save him. The document recovered from the company identifies Joseph Fayed as a possible route to Marwan. Jack argues that arresting Fayed will accomplish little and proposes sending Dina Araz to him with Jack as her apparent prisoner. In exchange, Dina is offered a future with Behrooz under new identities. She insists on seeing her son before agreeing to leave.
Michelle brings Chloe back to CTU to support the surveillance operation. Jack and Dina approach Fayed with a cover story about escaping an ambush, and Fayed contacts Marwan. The agents follow his car, but lose sight and sound inside a tunnel. Marwan's men switch Jack and Dina into another vehicle. Fayed drives on alone with an explosive briefcase, then detonates it when CTU closes in, killing members of the follow team.
Marwan confronts Dina about the surveillance and orders her to prove her loyalty by shooting Jack. She turns the weapon toward Marwan instead, but the gun is unloaded. Marwan has her killed and keeps Jack captive. Elsewhere, Anderson uses threats against an Air Force pilot's family to get onto a military base. He kills the pilot and takes his credentials, including a severed thumb that lets him pass a security scanner and enter the aircraft hangar.
