Switch Between Combat Modes
On this page
Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous offers two combat modes - real-time with pause and turn-based - and the publisher says you can switch between them on the fly so you can take things as slowly or as quickly as you like.
Real-time for the routine
Real-time with pause is the faster mode: fights keep moving and you stop the clock to give orders. For the many smaller encounters between story beats, that speed is the difference between progress and grind.
Turn-based for the fights that matter
Turn-based mode makes every action deliberate, which is exactly what a fight with a demon lord and a dozen moving parts demands. Because you can switch mid-encounter, the choice is per fight rather than per campaign.
Advanced manoeuvres are part of the rules
The Pathfinder ruleset is described as allowing advanced combat manoeuvres, with mounted combat given as the example. Those options are easier to see and use when time is not running.
The ruleset behind both modes is covered in building from twenty-five classes, and the war they are fought in is in commanding the crusade.
