Mix Magic With Melee

On this page

The publisher describes combat in Re-Reckoning as seamlessly integrating magical and melee attacks against scores of enemies in grand fight sequences, finished off with brutal Fateshift kills.

Seamless is the design word

The two halves are meant to run together. Open the full image.

Magic and melee are described as integrated rather than separate modes, which means the intended flow is switching inside a fight rather than picking a lane. A build that ignores one half is leaving part of the combat system unused.

Fateshift finishes the group

Fateshifts are described as finishing off enemies, in the context of fighting scores at once. That makes them a crowd-closing tool: the moment to use one is when the fight is nearly over and the remaining enemies are the reason it is still going.

Bring the right gear to the crowd

Because combat is described at the scale of scores of enemies, weapon choice is about how you handle a group rather than how you win a duel. The store lists weapons and armour as part of the same combination as abilities, so the gear and the ability set should answer the same problem.

The class underneath this combat comes from the Destiny system, and the pieces you choose between are in skills, weapons and armour.
