Code Vein II Getting Started

Build Ichor before spending it
Drain Attacks use your equipped Jail to draw blood and restore Ichor. Ichor then powers Formae, so alternate reliable weapon pressure with safe Drain opportunities instead of opening every fight by emptying the gauge.
Your defensive Forma is a real loadout choice: Guard, Counter, or a special evasive maneuver. Learn what it answers before relying on it. Update 2.01 specifically fixes cases where attacks intended to be unparryable could be parried, so no Counter should be treated as a universal answer.
Choose how your Partner helps
A summoned Partner fights independently and can help control groups. Assimilation folds the Partner into your build to improve your own stats and abilities, which suits focused one-on-one pressure. You can switch between the two, although some Partners only support Assimilation.
Enemy attacks do not kill a Partner. When your HP reaches zero, Restorative Offering revives you and temporarily incapacitates them. If a fight keeps breaking that safety net, change your own positioning or build rather than trying to “heal” the Partner.
Check your installed version on the title screen. The official 2.01 notes add an optional Story-Focused Mode that can be toggled in Options. Continue with Blood Codes and Partners and Formae and Builds.
