Code Vein II: Blood Codes and Partners

On this page

A Blood Code changes the build

Blood Codes can be swapped like equipment at any time. A Code changes base attributes, the weapons and Formae it supports, and its unique Trait. Compare the whole loadout instead of treating a Code as a level track.

Burden is applied when you equip weapons, Jails, and Defensive Formae. It is tied to the affected attributes rather than one simple weight limit. Going Overburdened gives both a Benefit and a Penalty; it can also change movement, including dodge quality. Test the result instead of assuming overload is always a mistake or always free power.

Proficiency unlocks stronger Codes

Blood Code proficiency rises by defeating enemies appropriate to that Code’s strength; weaker enemies give less progress. After mastering a Partner’s Code, speak to that Partner to obtain its higher-tier Code. Some powerful enemies also award Codes. Haze buys items and supports other progression, but it is not a currency for directly upgrading Blood Code proficiency.

Partners add Link Traits and passive Partner Trait Bonuses. Summoning gives you an independent ally; Assimilation strengthens your own stats and abilities. Raising affinity unlocks more passive bonuses, while upgrading your Jail increases Partner attack power. See Formae and Builds for ability slots and Weapons and Upgrades for equipment Burden.
