Twenty Wishes
Anne Marie Roche is thirty-eight, widowed and childless, and owns a bookshop on Blossom Street in Seattle that she took on after her husband died.
About
Twenty Wishes is a novel by the American writer Debbie Macomber, published in 2008 and part of her Blossom Street series. Its central character, Anne Marie Roche, is thirty-eight, a recent widow with no children, and the owner of a successful bookshop on Blossom Street in Seattle.
Anne Marie is looking for a way to be happy again, and on Valentine's Day she joins three other women in writing a list of twenty wishes. The novel follows what happens as the wishes begin to come true in ways the people who wrote them did not expect, with the group of friends supplying the book's structure and Anne Marie's own list driving its plot, and the story stays close to the ordinary decisions that follow from each item on it.
Macomber writes the series around a street and the people who live and work on it, so a reader can follow several households at once, and the tone is deliberately warm. It is one of the later Blossom Street novels, and the book's interest is in what a group of women do once they have said out loud what they want.
