The End of All Things
Earth and the Colonial Union have parted ways, and neither is on good terms with the Conclave, the coalition of alien governments.
About
The End of All Things is a science fiction novel by the American writer John Scalzi, published in 2015. It is the sixth book set in his Old Man's War universe and picks up where The Human Division left off.
The two large human governments, on Earth and in the Colonial Union, have separated after the destruction of Earth Station, and both are on poor terms with the Conclave, the coalition of alien powers that would rather the human colonies were not there. Without a supply of new people from Earth the Union's forces are shrinking, which leaves those colonies exposed to species that have been waiting for a sign of weakness.
Set against that are Lieutenant Harry Wilson and the Colonial Union diplomats known as the B-Team, who are trying to identify whoever is behind the attacks on the Union and on the Conclave, to find some understanding with an Earth that does not trust them, and to keep the Union in one piece. The book is made of linked stories, the first of them narrated by Rafe Daquin, a software engineer turned pilot whose merchant ship is taken by an alien species called the Rraey.
