The Blood of Olympus
The seven demigods of the prophecy set out on their final journey to defeat Gaea, while Nico di Angelo, Reyna and Coach Hedge attempt to carry the Athena Parthenos to Camp Half-Blood before war breaks out between the Roman and Greek demigods.
About
The Blood of Olympus is a 2014 middle-grade fantasy adventure by the American author Rick Riordan, based on Greco-Roman classical mythology. It was released on 7 October 2014 as the fifth and final novel in The Heroes of Olympus series, and it was followed by The Chalice of the Gods in 2023, which belongs to the Percy Jackson & the Olympians sequence.
The plot has two tracks that run at the same time. Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, Jason Grace, Leo Valdez, Piper McLean, Hazel Levesque and Frank Zhang travel together to defeat Gaea, also called Terra, and Nico di Angelo, Reyna Avila Ramirez-Arellano and Coach Gleeson Hedge take the Athena Parthenos north in an attempt to prevent a war between the Roman and Greek camps.
The narration is in the third person and alternates between points of view, which allows the book to follow the separated groups and to give the three characters travelling with the statue their own interior pressures. Jason's ghost is his mother, who abandoned him as a child; Reyna dreads the anger of her ancestors. Those private burdens are set against a deadline that is fixed by the prophecy and by the approach of open conflict between the camps.
