Star Wars - Master & Apprentice
Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi are a working pair, and the training between them runs both ways.
About
Master & Apprentice is a novel by the American writer Claudia Gray, published by Del Rey in 2019. It is set in the Star Wars galaxy before the events of the films.
The book works through the relationship at the centre of the Jedi Order, the bond between a master and the apprentice he is responsible for turning into a Jedi. Yoda trained Dooku, and Dooku trained Qui-Gon Jinn, who now has Obi-Wan Kenobi in his care, and the novel's question is what a teacher owes a student and what happens when a better opportunity appears. An unexpected offer puts the apprenticeship in doubt at the same moment that the two of them are sent to a new planet, where an unfamiliar culture has its own way of doing things and the negotiations they are part of are not what they appear to be.
Gray wrote the novel for readers who know the films, and it fills in the years when the future of its two Jedi was still open.
