Morning Star
Born a lowly Red in the mines of Mars, Darrow lost his wife to the Gold overlords and joined a secret revolutionary group, which remade him as a Gold so that he could infiltrate the ruling class and bring it down from within.
About
Morning Star is a 2016 science fiction novel by the American author Pierce Brown and the third book in his Red Rising trilogy. It picks up as the lowborn Darrow escapes capture and resumes his campaign against the Sovereign of the Society. It was published on 9 February 2016 and debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list.
It was preceded by Red Rising in 2014 and Golden Son in 2015. Brown announced a sequel trilogy in February 2016, beginning with Iron Gold in January 2018, so the third volume ends one sequence and opens another.
The plot's method is accumulation rather than a single battle. Darrow works pragmatically to gather the resources and allies he needs to defeat the Sovereign's forces. The series is written for adult readers despite a young protagonist, and the trilogy's structure means this volume has to close the accounts opened in the first two. Darrow is a lowborn Red who was remade into a Gold in order to infiltrate the ruling class, and this volume is where he stops working from inside it.
