It Happened One Autumn
Lillian Bowman is an American heiress whose blunt manners have not gone down well in London society, and Marcus, Lord Westcliff, is the most eligible and most disapproving aristocrat in it.
About
It Happened One Autumn is a historical romance by the American writer Lisa Kleypas, published in 2005 and part of her Wallflowers series.
The book is set in England, where Lillian Bowman and her friends have entered society with an agreement to help one another find husbands. Lillian is an American with a fortune behind her and a manner that the English find too direct, and the man who finds it most objectionable is Marcus, Lord Westcliff, an aristocrat with a great deal of property and a settled opinion about how things should be done. The novel puts the two of them at the same country house party, where the arrangements that society makes for people like them keep throwing them together. Kleypas writes the series about a group of friends rather than a single couple, and the other women are present throughout.
It is the second of the Wallflowers books, and the scheme the friends have agreed on is the thread that runs through the series, with each of the others taking her turn in the volumes that follow.
