Goosebumps - Ghost Beach
Terri and Jerry try to solve a mystery about a ghost with their friends, in a story set near a cave where the ghosts are said to live.
About
Ghost Beach is a Goosebumps novel by R. L. Stine, published in 1994. It belongs to the original Goosebumps run and is one of its ghost titles rather than one of its creature titles.
The story follows Terri and Jerry as they investigate a local legend, with a cave identified as the place where the ghosts are said to live. Since the setting is a beach community and the investigating group includes other children, the book's material is gossip, local history and the possibility that the people helping with the search are the danger.
The series routinely placed the scare inside the peer group. The book belongs to the line's ghost-story strand rather than its monster strand, and its scare is social: the children are investigating a local legend, and the question of whether to believe their friends is treated as seriously as the question of whether the ghost exists. Stine wrote the series so that each volume could be read alone, and this one keeps its cast small, with two children, their friends and a cave the adults do not go into.
