Five Run Away Together
Julian, Dick and Anne arrive at Kirrin Cottage to spend the holidays with their cousin George, and their plans for the island are ruined when Aunt Fanny falls ill and has to go away to hospital.
About
Five Run Away Together is a children's adventure novel by the English writer Enid Blyton, first published in 1944. It is the third book of the Famous Five series.
The five of them are Julian, Dick and Anne, their cousin George, whose real name is Georgina, and Timmy, her dog, and the books follow their holidays together in a country of coves, islands and empty houses. In this one Aunt Fanny is taken to hospital, and the woman engaged to keep house in her absence makes the children's lives unpleasant and threatens the dog, so they take the decision to camp out on Kirrin Island instead. What they find there involves a boat that comes and goes at night, a set of strangers with something to hide, and the children's determination to work out what is going on without adult help. Blyton wrote the series at a rate of one book a year, and this is one of the earlier and better regarded of them.
The Famous Five ran to twenty-one novels and has stayed in print for decades, and the settings are drawn from the coastal country in the south of England the author knew.
