Defy Me
Juliette believed she had beaten the Reestablishment and taken charge of her own life, and the fifth book of the series begins with her finding out how much of what she knew was arranged for her.
About
Defy Me is a young adult novel by the American writer Tahereh Mafi, published by HarperCollins in 2019 and the fifth book in the Shatter Me series.
Juliette Ferrars thought she had finished with the Reestablishment and had control of her power and her life. What the book does is take that apart: she has been living inside a set of lies assembled over years, and learning what they were leaves her facing the choice she has faced before, of being a weapon or refusing to be one. She is not on her own this time, which is the difference from the earlier books, and the fight she is in has to be won in her own memory before anything else can follow. The story is told by Juliette, by Warner and by Kenji.
It is the fifth of the novels about Juliette and the one that opens the way to the sixth.
