Dark Watch
A consortium of Japanese shipping magnates asks Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon for help, because their fortunes are being threatened by pirates working the waters of Southeast Asia.
About
Dark Watch is an adventure novel by the American writer Clive Cussler, published in 2004. It is the second book about Juan Cabrillo and the ship Oregon.
Cabrillo and his crew aboard the clandestine spy ship Oregon have made a comfortable and very dangerous living out of working for powerful Western interests. Their newest clients come from the Far East: a consortium of Japanese shipping magnates whose fortunes are being threatened by brutal pirates operating in the waters of Southeast Asia.
Piracy of that kind normally falls on smaller vessels and foreign-owned yachts, which are easy targets on the open ocean, but the consortium's giant commercial freighters are going missing as well, which is not how these attacks are supposed to work.
When Cabrillo confronts the enemy directly, he finds that the pirates are hiding something much larger than robbery: an international conspiracy involving slavery and death, which he means to put an end to before it goes any further. The Oregon's crew take on that work the way they take on everything else, with equipment that the ship does not appear to carry and with clients who would rather not be named.
