City of Fallen Angels
The Mortal War is over, and Clary Fray is back in New York, training to be a Shadowhunter and looking forward to a period with nothing worse in it than her mother's wedding.
About
City of Fallen Angels is a novel for young readers by the American writer Cassandra Clare, published in 2011 and the fourth book in the Mortal Instruments series.
Clary has spent the first three books being told what she is and what she can do, and this one gives her a stretch of ordinary life that lasts a very short time. The murders are followed by the disappearance of a body and by the politics of a peace nobody involved really wants, and the investigation forces her and Jace apart at the moment she needs him. Simon's situation is the other half of the novel: he is coming to terms with having been turned, with the loyalty of his friends and with a group who want to use him as a symbol. Clare writes urban fantasy with a large cast, and the relationships are as carefully arranged as the plot.
It followed City of Glass, and the series continues in City of Lost Souls, which takes up the story from the point this one leaves it.
