Atlantis Found
Three things happen that have nothing to do with one another: an Antarctic whaler finds an old wreck with a frozen crew and something valuable aboard, anthropologists are buried under a mountain by a deliberate explosion, and a ship that should have gone down fifty-six years ago reappears and nearly sinks a government research vessel.
About
Atlantis Found is an adventure novel by the American writer Clive Cussler, published in 1999. It is one of the longest of the books about Dirk Pitt, the engineer who works for the National Underwater and Marine Agency, and it begins with three separate disasters.
The first is the discovery by a whaling ship in the Antarctic of an aged wreck whose crew is frozen in place and which is guarding a valuable cargo. The second is the explosion that brings a mountain down on a party of anthropologists. The third is the reappearance of a vessel that should have died fifty-six years earlier and that almost takes a NUMA ship with it.
Pitt works out that the events are connected, and following the connection takes him into an ancient mystery whose consequences are entirely modern. The book gives him an enemy unlike any he has met before, and it puts him in a race in which the thing at stake is not only his own life but the safety of the world.
