Learn New Attacks from Offline Opponents
On this page
Learn an unfamiliar Absolver attack by defending against it, then defeating the opponent who used it. This works against offline enemies, so you don’t need another player or a School for this method.
Let the opponent show the move
Choose an enemy you can survive against and leave enough health to finish the fight. On the default PS4 layout, tap R1 to lock on and hold L2 to guard. Let the enemy attack instead of immediately emptying your own sequence into them.
Successful defensive actions against an unknown move build your knowledge of that move. Keep defending when it appears again. Your style ability is another option; if you use Windfall, match Avoid to the incoming attack.
Don’t confuse watching a move with learning it. You need successful defence, and one encounter may not be enough to unlock an attack. Choose an enemy whose attacks you can read rather than taking repeated hits while hoping the unlock will happen.
Win before checking the deck
When you need to stop defending, fight back and defeat that opponent. Losing the fight discards the attack knowledge gained during it. Finishing safely is more useful than stretching the attempt until you die.
After the win, open Meditation and the Combat Deck editor. Look for the attack among the moves available to you. If it remains locked, continue learning it in another successful fight. If it is unlocked but won’t fit a particular slot, check the required starting stance instead of assuming you lost the unlock.
Once it is available, place the move in a matching deck slot and follow its ending stance through the next attack. Unlocking the move gives you an option; equipping it puts that option into your sequence.
