Ivar confronts Lagertha in Kattegat and challenges her to single combat for killing Aslaug. She refuses, leaving him furious and unsatisfied. Lagertha also struggles with Ragnar's death, seeing a vision of him before returning to the demands of ruling. She starts strengthening Kattegat's defences and asks the Seer whether Ragnar's sons will kill her. His answer gives her little comfort as she settles into the throne.
Bjorn's fleet runs short of supplies before reaching Spain, where the expedition raids a wealthy settlement. The invaders kill and plunder, but Floki reacts differently when he enters a mosque and sees the worshippers continuing their prayers. He prevents Harald from killing them. Their devotion holds his attention even though their religion is unfamiliar to him and the raid continues outside.
Helga wants another child, while Floki tells her that he feels empty and does not share her wish to begin a new family. During the raid she becomes attached to a young girl and decides to take her with them, despite Floki's objections. Away from the fighting, Ragnar's sons receive news of their father's death through the appearance of the one-eyed visitor. The message reaches both those at home and those abroad, bringing the brothers' separate journeys back to the same loss.
