Season 11 brings Charlie’s adult daughter Jenny to the beach house after she arrives hoping to know the family she never met. She is welcomed by Alan and Walden and takes Jake’s old room, while Evelyn tries to build a connection with her granddaughter. Jenny shares Charlie’s appetite for women and drinking, but her arrival also shifts the household’s focus from Jake’s absence to a new Harper generation. Walden explores business ventures and new relationships as Alan keeps trying to revive his uncertain life with Lyndsey.
When Lyndsey starts dating Larry, Alan creates the wealthy alter ego Jeff Strongman so he can remain close to her without alarming the new boyfriend. The deception gets more elaborate: Alan dates Larry’s sister Gretchen as Jeff and begins to enjoy the confidence his invented identity gives him. Walden, meanwhile, starts a company with his technical-minded girlfriend Nicole, but their work and personal priorities pull them apart. Jenny pursues acting and relationships of her own while Charlie remains absent from the family’s life.
In the finale, Alan tells Larry that he is Jeff Strongman, and Walden accidentally reveals that Alan and Lyndsey were still sleeping together; Larry calls off his wedding to Lyndsey and later confronts Alan. Alan proposes to Gretchen and she accepts, but Lyndsey arrives drunk at the ceremony in her wedding dress. She has also called Gretchen’s former husband Derek, who asks to come back. Gretchen leaves with Derek to talk through their history, then phones Alan to say the engagement is not over but she needs time. Walden reassures Alan that he can stay at the beach house, and the two friends agree to return to their original roommate arrangement.
