Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
Charlie Harper's easy routine in his Malibu house changes when his divorced brother Alan and ten-year-old Jake come to stay. Alan is still trying to manage life after Judith, his ex-wife, and Jake moves between both parents, while Charlie is learning that his nephew needs more than a bed and takeout. Their mother Evelyn drops in with her blunt advice, and housekeeper Berta keeps the household running while openly criticizing both brothers. Charlie also receives a warning from his financial manager that his royalty income cannot keep pace with his spending, forcing a temporary budget that collides with his usual reliance on quick cash and easy dates.
Rose, a neighbor with whom Charlie had a one-night stand, becomes his stalker, insisting she loves him and repeatedly entering his life. Over the season, that intrusive pursuit turns into an unexpected friendship; she also bonds with Alan and Jake, making her part of the household's wider orbit. Alan keeps trying to repair his relationship with Judith and to parent Jake from Charlie's house, while Charlie's casual dating and blunt advice create their own family friction. In the finale, a pregnancy scare leads Charlie to consider a vasectomy. He backs away after seeing his doctor's newborn son, ending the season without going through with the procedure.
