Cooper lies wounded on his hotel floor while an elderly waiter delivers the milk he ordered. The man seems unable to understand his need for help, and a Giant then appears with cryptic clues about a smiling bag, owls and a man who points without chemicals. He takes Cooper's ring and promises to return it when the clues make sense. Truman and the deputies finally arrive and get Cooper to hospital. The news from elsewhere is grim: Jacques has been murdered, Leo has been shot and the sawmill has burned. Shelly and Pete have survived, but Catherine is still missing.
Cooper resumes the inquiry and finds evidence linking Leo to the mill fire, while a loose plank at Leo's home reveals hidden cocaine. Andy establishes that Leo was jailed in Hungry Horse when Teresa Banks died, undermining the idea that he committed both murders. At One Eyed Jacks, Audrey avoids her father by hiding her face, but Blackie becomes suspicious of her. Leland's hair has turned white and his sudden cheerfulness unsettles Sarah and Maddy. Donna receives a note directing her toward Laura's Meals on Wheels route. The Giant returns to Cooper with another warning, and Ronette's hospital nightmare reveals the long-haired BOB attacking Laura. The surviving witness remains trapped in the terror of that night.
