With Silvio ill, Paulie and Christopher collect money from Valery, a Russian acquaintance. The debt is paid, but Paulie provokes a fight after Valery asks him to put a remote control back. Believing they have killed him, the pair drive his body to the Pine Barrens. Valery revives, and they force him to dig a grave. He attacks them with the shovel and flees. They fire after him, apparently hitting his head, but cannot find him.
Following Valery's trail leaves Paulie and Christopher lost in the snow. Their car disappears, along with the money inside it. Hungry, freezing and badly equipped, they take shelter in an abandoned van and argue about who caused the disaster. Poor telephone reception complicates their requests for help. Tony learns that Valery has military experience and brings Bobby, who knows the outdoors, to search for the stranded men rather than leave them in the woods overnight.
Tony's rescue trip interrupts an already volatile evening with Gloria, whose anger culminates in throwing a steak at him. Meadow separately discovers Jackie with another woman and ends their relationship. By morning, Tony and Bobby locate Paulie and Christopher. Paulie presents a misleading account of the confrontation, and Christopher supports him. Valery's fate remains unresolved. Tony warns Paulie that he will bear responsibility if the Russian returns and creates trouble, then drives the men out of the freezing woods.
