Donna joins Wernham Hogg despite the continuing threat of redundancies. She is staying with Brent, whose friendship with her parents makes him particularly anxious about how the men treat her. He introduces her to the staff and insists that they help her settle in. While showing her the office's email system, he discovers a pornographic image with his own face pasted onto it and demands to know who circulated it.
Brent gives Gareth responsibility for the investigation. Gareth takes the assignment seriously, claiming authority over colleagues who refuse to take him seriously in return. His questioning provides Tim and Dawn with more opportunities to tease him. Elsewhere, Jennifer asks what Brent has done to improve efficiency. He claims he has already dismissed a warehouse employee called Julie Anderton, but a visit downstairs reveals that nobody there has heard of her. Jennifer exposes the invented redundancy.
Gareth identifies Tim's computer as the source of the image, and Brent confronts him in front of Jennifer. Tim explains that Chris Finch used his computer to make the joke. Brent immediately changes his position and calls the image funny, leaving Dawn to press him into an apology. Jennifer still expects him to stop employing Finch. Brent appears to telephone his friend with the news, but the speaking clock reveals that he has staged the entire call.
