Season 7 follows Jane and Lisbon as they begin a relationship after the airport confession, keeping it secret from their FBI colleagues while they work cases with Abbott, Cho and analyst Jason Wylie. New agent Michelle Vega joins the team, and Cho helps train her. Jane and Lisbon’s partnership now includes decisions about a shared future as well as their investigations, though Jane remains wary of becoming attached after the losses that shaped his life. Their cases range from arms smuggling to Lisbon’s family and the political fallout around Abbott.
The season’s turn comes when Vega is shot during an armored-car robbery investigation and dies in hospital. Her death brings Jane’s grief and fear of another loss back to the surface; he disappears for a time, then returns when a pair of siblings claiming psychic insight become targets in a murder case. The investigation draws the team toward Joe Keller, known as Lazarus, a serial killer who captures Jane and challenges his claim that he has no supernatural powers. Jane escapes after turning Keller’s fixation against him, but Keller gets away too.
Jane proposes to Lisbon and they plan a wedding, while Abbott and the team quietly increase security because they expect Keller to seek revenge. Keller reaches the ceremony, where Lisbon and FBI agents intercept him before he can attack the couple. Jane and Lisbon marry with their colleagues and family around them, and Lisbon tells Jane she is pregnant. The ending gives Jane a future with Lisbon and a family of his own, bringing the series’ long pursuit of a life beyond his grief to a close.
