Season 2

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

After Jane’s pursuit of Red John disrupts the CBI, director Virgil Minelli transfers the case from Lisbon’s unit to Sam Bosco’s team. Jane is shut out but keeps angling for access while helping Lisbon solve her cases. Their investigation links a frozen body to one of Red John’s earlier victims and then to Dr. Towlen Morning. Evidence exposes Bosco’s secretary Rebecca as an insider who used her access to attack his team and remove evidence.

Rebecca tells Jane Red John ordered the attack because he wanted him back on the case. Bosco survives long enough to speak with Lisbon and Jane, but dies from his wounds; Rebecca is poisoned during her transfer. Minelli retires, and Lisbon’s team resumes the hunt. Jane also grows closer to Kristina Frye, who says she is a genuine psychic. Her public claims about understanding Red John echo Jane’s own televised provocation and put her in danger, though she does not accept his warning.

The finale opens with Jane and Kristina on a date before a Red John-style murder video reaches the CBI. Jane identifies the crime as a copycat, but Kristina goes on television to invite Red John to seek help. The CBI places her under protection, but Red John kills her television interviewer. Van Pelt later discovers Kristina missing from her guarded home; the team cannot tell whether she left or was taken. Jane pursues the young killer behind the copycat case and is captured. Red John appears masked, quotes William Blake and says Kristina sends her love before leaving Jane alive. Kristina’s fate remains unresolved.
