The Mandalorian searches for others of his people, hoping they can help him find the child's kind. Gor Koresh tries to steal his armor, but interrogation produces a lead to Mos Pelgo on Tatooine. Peli Motto helps him locate the settlement, where Cobb Vanth wears Mandalorian armor without belonging to the order. Vanth refuses to surrender it simply because a stranger demands it. A krayt dragon threatening the town gives them a reason to negotiate: kill the creature together, and the armor will be returned.
Vanth explains that the armor helped him free the settlement from the Mining Collective. Protecting that freedom now requires cooperation with the Tusken Raiders, whom the townspeople regard as enemies. The Mandalorian speaks with the Tuskens and brokers an agreement: they will receive the dragon's remains and stop attacking the town if the residents help fight it. Convincing both groups to work together becomes as necessary as finding a way through the creature's defenses.
Their buried explosives fail to kill the dragon, and its counterattack scatters the fighters. The Mandalorian takes an explosive-laden bantha into its path, allowing himself to be swallowed before escaping and detonating the charge from within. With the threat ended, the Tuskens claim the carcass and recover a pearl. Vanth gives up the armor as promised, parting from the hunter with mutual respect. A scarred man watches from a distance as the Mandalorian leaves, keeping the armor's earlier owner an unresolved presence.
