Season synopsis

Alicia and Will begin a secret affair while Peter returns to work as State’s Attorney. Their professional relationship makes secrecy difficult, and a scare involving her missing daughter Grace forces Alicia to confront the demands on her family. She ends the affair, but still works alongside Will as his past conduct attracts a corruption investigation. Peter appoints Wendy Scott-Carr to pursue possible judicial bribery, while Elsbeth Tascioni helps defend Will. His suspension from practicing law leaves Diane carrying more responsibility and encourages other partners to seek his position.
Alicia handles a British libel dispute, a cryptocurrency case and a police review that brings her into conflict with political interests. Cary becomes disenchanted with the prosecutor’s office and returns to Lockhart Gardner. A large court victory then turns into a financial crisis: Louis Canning and Patti Nyholm use litigation to distract the firm while taking an important client. Peter buys the family’s former house after Jackie’s intervention, and Zach asks Alicia to stay for a family meal. She hesitates between returning to work and joining them, leaving reconciliation uncertain. Separately, an inquiry about an uncashed check draws Alicia into Kalinda’s concealed past. Kalinda admits the threatening caller is her husband and waits at home with a gun; the confrontation itself is still ahead.
