Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

Liz and Red begin the season as fugitives after she kills Tom Connolly, and the FBI and the Cabal hunt them while they try to clear her name. Ressler leads the pursuit, placing him in conflict with the colleagues he once worked beside. Red and Liz uncover the conspiracy behind the OREA bombing and the effort to frame her, while the Director uses the Cabal’s reach to keep pressure on them. Karakurt’s confession clears Liz of the bombing and senator’s murder, but her plea over Connolly prevents her return as an FBI agent.

After the immediate threat recedes, Liz and Tom reunite and plan to marry. Mr. Solomon’s attack on their wedding sends them fleeing, and Liz is injured in a car crash while pregnant. Mr. Kaplan arranges an emergency delivery; Liz names the baby Agnes and refuses Red’s request to see her. A severe post-birth complication follows. Red and Nik try to save Liz, but the task force is told she has died, and her colleagues mourn her while Red pursues the people he believes caused her death.

The later episodes uncover a trail to Alexander Kirk, who claims to be Liz’s father and is pursuing Tom and Agnes. Tom takes Agnes to Cuba to hide, with Mr. Kaplan’s help, while Red tries to reach Kirk. In the finale, Kaplan tells Red that Liz’s death was staged to protect her daughter; Liz is alive and meets Tom in Cuba. Kirk’s men then abduct Liz, Tom and Agnes, and Red and Kaplan arrive too late to find them. Kirk tells Liz that his real name is Konstantin Rostov and claims to be her birth father; the season leaves her captive and that claim unconfirmed.
