Season synopsis

Sheldon’s connection with Amy Farrah Fowler grows from their first awkward date into a friendship that increasingly includes Penny and Bernadette. Sheldon still defines the bond on his own careful terms, but Amy’s kiss after a night out catches him off guard and leaves him intrigued rather than turning them into a conventional couple. Their limits remain visible: Amy wants a closer connection, while Sheldon approaches intimacy as something to examine and negotiate. By the finale, the pair are still together as friends, with their relationship left deliberately unresolved.
Howard and Bernadette resume dating and become part of the group’s everyday life. After several months together, Howard proposes, and Bernadette accepts. He delays telling his mother, then finally shares the engagement news; she is taken to hospital, but the apparent emergency proves to be food poisoning rather than a heart attack. Elsewhere, Leonard begins a serious relationship with Raj’s sister Priya after she comes to Pasadena. Penny, now Leonard’s ex, struggles with seeing him move on, while Leonard and Priya’s plans collide with Priya’s eventual return to India.
The finale leaves several relationships unsettled instead of tying them off. Priya and Leonard are staying in Raj’s apartment, so Raj takes Leonard’s room in the apartment he shares with Sheldon after overhearing the couple’s private role-play and finding his own home uncomfortable. During a night of drinking, Raj and Penny talk about their shared worries over Leonard and Priya; the next morning Penny wakes beside Raj and is shocked, while Raj still cannot speak to her. The episode does not confirm what happened between them, and Leonard discovers Priya expects to return to India soon.
