Season 15

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

The souls Chuck releases from Hell rise as the dead, and Sam, Dean and Castiel fight the outbreak with help from Belphegor, a demon occupying Jack’s body. His apparent assistance hides a plan to absorb the escaped souls himself. Castiel kills him before he can complete it, leaving Rowena to make a fatal sacrifice. At her request, Sam stabs her so she can draw the souls into herself and return them to Hell. The brothers then turn to Chuck, who has been steering their lives toward an ending he wrote for them.

Sam and Dean refuse Chuck’s demand that they kill each other, and their allies pursue a way to make Jack powerful enough to stand against him. Billie’s plan requires Jack to absorb dangerous energy, while Chuck’s efforts to control events cost the brothers people they love. Castiel confesses his love for Dean and sacrifices himself to save him from Billie; the Empty takes Castiel and Billie, leaving Dean alive. With the world emptied by God, Sam, Dean and Jack make one last attempt to oppose him. Their plan uses Michael’s betrayal: Jack absorbs the power Chuck unleashes, then takes Chuck’s power and leaves him human.

Jack becomes the new God and restores the vanished world. Sam and Dean return to hunting. They rescue children from a vampire nest, but Dean is impaled during the fight and dies after saying goodbye to Sam. Sam carries on, raises a son named Dean, and eventually dies of old age. Dean reaches the changed Heaven, where he reunites with Bobby and later with Sam. Jack has rebuilt Heaven with Castiel’s help, allowing its residents to be together.
