Owens takes Eleven to a concealed facility in Nevada, where she discovers that Brenner is running the treatment intended to restore her powers. Frightened by his return, she tries to leave and is sedated. Inside the NINA tank, she relives her childhood at Hawkins Laboratory, repeatedly encountering an orderly and other children. The memories become violent, and Owens demands that Brenner stop when her body begins convulsing. Eleven briefly throws guards aside with her powers, then chooses to continue the treatment.
Mike, Will, Jonathan and Argyle bury the wounded protector after he dies. His last instructions point them toward Nina, and a number hidden in his pen connects to a computer rather than a person. They decide to seek help from Suzie. Meanwhile, Hopper shares a cell with the guard who arranged his escape and describes the guilt he carries over his daughter's death. Joyce and Murray overpower Yuri aboard his plane, but their struggle leaves them crash-landed in the snowy wilderness.
Max draws the broken surroundings she saw in Vecna's mind, and Nancy recognizes the Creel house among the pieces. The Hawkins group searches the abandoned building, following moving patches of electrical activity with their flashlights. Eddie remains at Reefer Rick's place until Jason and his teammates track him down. He escapes onto Lovers Lake in a boat, with Jason and Patrick swimming after him. Patrick suddenly rises out of the water and is killed by Vecna as Jason and Eddie watch.
