The chapel confrontation continues with Chang-su shot on Tae-il's order. Soo-ho brings Yeong-ro back inside while Ahn Gyeong-hui arrives outside with reporters, making the incident impossible to conceal. Tae-il blames the spies and gains authorisation for an assault. The account on television contradicts what Soo-ho and Gang-mu know happened, while Yeong-ro struggles with the news that her father has been injured. Students gather for protection as the electricity is cut. SWAT enters through the bathroom and threatens hostages, but Soo-ho and Gang-mu force a retreat by using Chung-ya and the explosives as leverage against Tae-il's attachment to her.
Chung-ya offers to intercept the money promised to the North, disrupting the deal that has made the hostages expendable. She stages an escape and returns to Tae-il, while Han-na gathers evidence of their affair and continues watching her. Chung-ya draws on a fortune-teller involved with the officials' wives and uses Tae-il's passport details to arrange a bank account. Chang-su, meanwhile, has recovered consciousness, a fact Ae-ra keeps from his rival. Gang-mu remains suspicious that Chung-ya will take the money and abandon everyone. He instructs Han-na to arrest her and bring her back with the funds, also intending to arrest Soo-ho once the students are safe. Soo-ho overhears the order. The allies confront each other with weapons, exposing how little trust supports their cooperation.
