After her first breakup with Big, Carrie dates other men and makes peace with single life, then reunites with Big. She wants him to include her in plans; he remains hard to pin down. When he leaves for Paris without asking her to join, she ends things again. He returns with Natasha, a younger woman he met there, and prepares to marry her, a commitment he had refused with Carrie.
While waiting for Carrie, who has dropped their dinner plans to be with Big, Miranda meets bartender Steve. They sleep together, but Miranda calls it a one-night stand; after a disagreement at dinner, she runs after him and apologizes, and they begin dating. Steve wants a relationship, but his late shifts conflict with Miranda’s work mornings. Their different budgets surface when she offers to buy him an expensive suit; Steve is uncomfortable with the gesture and breaks up with her. Miranda dates other men but still misses him. In the finale, she apologizes for running from him, accepts a dinner date, and they sleep together, reopening their connection without defining it.
Charlotte begins an optimistic courtship with pastry chef Stephan, while Samantha fires her assistant after discovering he used her contact list to stage a Hamptons party. Carrie tries to turn her history with Big into friendship and meets him for lunch; he tells her he and Natasha are engaged. She leaves in shock, later confronts him outside their engagement party and asks why he will marry Natasha but not her. Big cannot answer in a way that repairs the hurt, and Carrie leaves with a reflection that some women are not meant to be tamed.
