Season 3

Season synopsis

Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.

The season begins with Jerry, George and Elaine asking Jerry’s dentist for notes that would let insurance cover physical-therapy massages; the scheme instead draws attention to the dentist’s fraud. George’s blunt honesty causes trouble with his accountant girlfriend Patrice, while Kramer’s relationship with Elaine’s roommate Tina makes him an unwelcome presence in Elaine’s apartment. In Florida, Jerry and Elaine visit Morty and Helen, where a gifted astronaut pen, a stiff sofa bed and Morty’s dispute with Jack Klompus combine to derail Morty’s condo-association ceremony.

The group loses Kramer's car in a shopping-mall garage while Elaine worries about her new goldfish and George frets about missing his parents’ anniversary; later, they argue over a contested parking space after Jerry’s car is rear-ended. Elaine worries about her job at Pendant Publishing, then helps George get a position there, where he hides a cashmere sweater’s defect and becomes vulnerable to a cleaner after drunken sex.

In the finale, Jerry takes back the spare keys Kramer has been using after finding him in the apartment at all hours. Kramer refuses the keys when Jerry relents, calling their arrangement a broken covenant, and leaves for California to try to break into show business; Newman says resentment over Jerry’s hospitality is the real reason. Jerry gives his keys to Elaine, and the ring is shuffled through George and Kramer; the friends lose track of who has what, leaving Jerry locked out of his own apartment. Kramer remains on the road into the next season’s opening.
