Season synopsis
Contains spoilers for this season and earlier seasons.
The Fox River escapees scatter across the country, each trying to evade police and reach a separate goal. FBI agent Alexander Mahone takes charge of the manhunt and recognizes that Michael's tattoos encode more than prison plans. A hidden fortune buried in Utah draws Michael, Lincoln and several fugitives back together, while Sucre races to stop Maricruz from marrying his cousin and C-Note tries to reunite with his wife and daughter. T-Bag forces a veterinarian to repair his severed hand and pursues the money on his own.
The chase tightens as Mahone anticipates Michael's moves and the Company works to silence anyone who can expose Lincoln's frame-up. Veronica locates Terrence Steadman in Montana, but Company operatives kill her before she can help the brothers. Sara, recovering from an overdose, follows Michael's message and joins him; former Secret Service agent Paul Kellerman shifts from hunting the brothers to helping them use a recording that links President Caroline Reynolds to the conspiracy. Their attempt to turn that evidence into a pardon for the brothers collides with Reynolds's resignation, leaving the charges unresolved.
Michael and Lincoln flee toward Panama, with Sara arrested after sacrificing her chance to board their boat. Kellerman testifies and helps clear Lincoln and Sara, while the other escapees' paths break apart: C-Note wins protection for his family, Sucre is left chasing T-Bag, and Mahone is arrested. When Sara reaches the brothers, Company agent Bill Kim threatens them; she shoots him, and Michael gives himself up so she and Lincoln can escape the immediate danger. The season ends with Michael locked inside Sona, a Panamanian prison, while Lincoln and Sara remain outside.
